Soon Liok Kee began her piano studies at the age of five under the tutelage of Ong Lip Tat. In 1990, she emerged the regional top candidate in the LRSM examinations and was offered a scholarship from the Associated Board to study piano at one of the Royal Schools in London. Upon graduation from LaSalle-SIA College in 1991, Liok Kee went on to study under Dennis Lee at Kingston University, where she was conferred B.Mus. Since 1994, Liok Kee became US-based, attending Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned two master degrees, one in piano performance and the other, piano pedagogy. At Illinois, Liok Kee’s teachers included the renowned Ruth Slenczynska, Kenneth Drake and Reid Alexander.
